Walking Tours of
Ridgewood Ranch: Home of Seabiscuit
Join us as we take a step back in time this summer and tour the historic Ridgewood Ranch. The Willits Chamber of Commerce, Christ’s Church of the Golden Rule, and the Mendocino County Museum invite you to "come on down to the ranch!" Visit the special place that Seabiscuit, the amazing champion racehorse that captured the hearts of Americans in the '30s and '40s, called home! THE GUIDED WALKING TOUR INCLUDES: Viewing of vintage restored film footage of Ridgewood Ranch and Willits made by Dr. Raymond Babcock, the first physician of Frank R. Howard Memorial Hospital . The video includes scenes of the ranch, Seabiscuit, jockey Red Pollard and other personalities associated with the legend of Seabiscuit; Visit Seabiscuit’s restored barn, other historic structures on Ridgewood Ranch; the new Seabiscuit Statue; Descendants of Seabiscuit; Continental breakfast; special commemorative souvenir; and viewing of Seabiscuit memorabilia. Space is limited and is by reservation only, on a first-come-first-served basis. Apply early, space is NOT guaranteed. The tour is from 9am to noon* and held rain or shine! No animals are allowed on tour. Not recommended for children under 5 years old. Participants should be able to easily traverse slightly uneven terrain. Reservation cancellations are accepted up to one week prior to the tour date. *The May 24, 2008 "DIAMOND TOUR & PRIVATE RECEPTION", (9am—12pm) celebrating Seabiscuit's 75th Birthday, will include a ranch walking tour, unveiling of a Seabiscuit mini statue and carriage rides. A private reception including a silent auction, wine tasting, hors d'oeuvres, as well as entertainment by Dora Street Brass will be held at the Mendocino County Museum in Willits (1pm-4pm). Proceeds are to benefit the Howard Hospital & Seabiscuit Heritage Foundations.
