Willits Community Theatre Presents - "Same Time Next Year"
Willits Community Theatre kicks off their 2013 season with a champagne reception on March 1 at 7:15pm for the performance of one of the most popular romantic comedies of the last fifty years, Same Time Next Year by Bernard Slade, which ran for four years on Broadway and was made into a movie in 1978, starring Alan Alda and Ellen Burstyn. The movie version was filmed at the Heritage House, south of Mendocino.
Since its opening in 1975, Same Time Next Year has played to theatre audiences everywhere and seems to hold a lasting appeal. What keeps people coming back? Two people, married but not to each other, meet in a romantic hideaway on the Mendocino Coast, have an affair, and decide to return to this place once a year to recreate their romance. Their affair covers twenty-five years, during which they talk about their spouses, their children, their fears, and their guilt.
Over the 25 years George and Doris (played by local favorites Matt Holzhauer and Erin Livingston) develop an emotional intimacy as they describe their lives back home, their families, their regrets, and their problems. It is the idea that maybe we can love more than one person, which seems to give this play its complexity, and is the source of its humor and pathos.
The play runs from March 1 through March 17.
Showtimes: Thursday - 7pm; Friday & Saturday - 8pm; Sunday - 2pm
