The Mendocino Land Trust and partners invites the public to the first Mendocino County Trail Symposium on January 9, 2010 in Fort Bragg. Learn about existing trails in Mendocino County and help create momentum for new trail opportunities! The event will begin with free trail outings for pedestrians, bicycles, horses, and kayaks in the Fort Bragg area during the morning (outings are free of charge and open to the public), followed by an Open House at Fort Bragg’s Larsen Hall from Noon to 5:00 p.m. During the open house, the public will have the opportunity to view trail maps, learn about regular hikes, listen to presentations on existing and needed trails, and hear about one person’s 1,300 mile hike of the California Coastal Trail. Roots of Motive Power Steam Festival: The public is invited to this FREE two-day event that showcases historic railroad and logging equipment. Watch as plumes of steam and the shrieks of steam whistles fill the air as a variety of steam-powered equipment is fired up. HISTORIC RAILROAD & LOGGING EQUIPMENT SHOW There will be a variety of steam and early gas-powered equipment operating during the event - including cranes, shovels, a monster steam-powered tractor, steam logging donkey and a number of live steam engines. Tour the Roots facility and meet the great volunteers that have lovingly restored this equipment for our enjoyment. FREE TRAIN RIDES Free train rides around the loop track adjacent to the Mendocino County Museum/Roots Complex will be available both Saturday and Sunday. ANTIQUE & CLASSIC CAR DISPLAY Many of the beautifully restored classic cars owned by members of the Willits Shifters Car Club will be on display. ANNUAL ROOTS APPRECIATION BBQ - Sat., Sept 11 @ 4pm Location: Recreation Grove Park (Across from the Roots/Musuem Complex) Enjoy a great BBQ with all the trimmings prepared by Roots vlolunteers. Farmer's Market - We are part of the Mendocino County Farmers' Markets Association, which is a non-profit entity, organized for the purpose of promoting local agriculture. There's everything from veges and fruits to homegrown beef to home made pies (my favorite) to crafts and live music!
