H1N1 Vaccination Clinic Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009 in Willits

As of November 19, Mendocino County has received approximately 10,500 doses of the allocated 13,700 doses of the H1N1 vaccine. Until now, all of the vaccine has been distributed directly to hospitals, clinics, and health care providers.

This week Community Health Services (CHS) received an additional 900 doses of preservative free H1N1 vaccine. This type of vaccine is targeted primarily for pregnant women and children. Two hundred doses will be given to local obstetrics offices in the county and the remaining 700 doses will be used to conduct a free H1N1 vaccination clinic next Tuesday, November 24 in Willits. The target groups for the clinic are:

  • Pregnant women
  • Children 3-12 years old
  • Children 13-18 years old with chronic medical condition
  • Pre-hospital medical first responders

All medical first responders will be required to show proof of agency affiliation: fire department or ambulance company identification badge and identification, or a letter on department letterhead verifying membership within a department/company and identification.

Everyone attending the clinic will be screened prior to entering the vaccination area. Anyone that currently has flu symptoms or does not fall into one of the target groups will be turned away. “It is important to first vaccinate those in our community that are at the highest risk for severe illness and death related to H1N1,” stated Gloria Gutfeld, Director of Nursing at CHS. Gutfeld continued, “These target groups fall within the Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommended target populations. When more vaccine becomes available, we will hold additional clinics accepting a broader range of the population. Until everyone can get vaccinated, we should be taking every precaution to avoid transferring germs and contracting the flu.”

The H1N1 vaccination clinic will be held at Baechtel Grove Middle School Cafeteria, 1150 Magnolia St., Willits, CA from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. or until all of the vaccine has been administered. Parking is limited, so please try to carpool or use public transportation.
