On behalf of Willits Chamber of Commerce, welcome to Willits, California! "Gateway to the Redwoods Heart of Mendocino County". Willits is a small rural community located on U.S. Highway 101 approximately 140 miles north of San Francisco. A town rich in history with beautiful scenery, from rolling hills to picturesque ranches dotting the landscape. Named after Hiram Willits, it was settled by pioneering ranchers in the 1850's.

“A Passion for Plants & Place: Carl Purdy of Mendocino County,” an exhibit that explores the Ukiah nurseryman’s role in botany and horticulture has been extended through March 18, 2012. The Mendocino County Museum show also features images of regional wildflowers by painter Grace Hudson and photographer Peter W. Stearns, as well as plant specimens and historic artifacts related to Purdy’s life work.
